Music & Architecture

“Music is liquid architecture; Architecture is frozen music.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Buildings can evoke the character of music, music shares many of the devices of great buildings.

Music and architecture can be paralleled in many more ways than one. Rhythm, texture, harmony, proportion, and dynamics all are tied into the arts in some way; whether it is through buildings, or songs. Either way, the overall qualities shared between music and architecture can help inspire each other. Buildings in the realm of musical ideas and vice versa will be discussed.

This seminar will  be hosted in a private Toronto residence designed by Richard Librach.

Length: 2.5 hours | $125 per ticket | Thursday, April 23

20th Century Architectural Heroes

“We create our buildings and then they create us. Likewise, we construct our circle of friends and our communities and then they construct us.” Frank Lloyd Wright

Understand why the modern masters—Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Mies Van Der Rohe, Louis Kahn, Alvar Aalto—were so far ahead of their time and how they are omnipresent in the thinking of today. Their most iconic works and philosophies are brought to the present.

Sommelier guided wine pairing provided by Lindsay Groves, a certified Sommelier, Wine and Spirit Educator and Consultant. With over a decade of experience in the wine and hospitality industry, Lindsay will enhance our evening with a true wine experience.

Length: 2.5 hours | $125 per ticket | Thursday, May 7th

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then the person who is observing gets to decide what is beautiful. Architecture begs to differ. So, how is beauty defined? Together, we will look at the mathematics of beauty in Architecture.

We will journey into how every era has tried to explain why some buildings embody the ingredients of beauty while others…

This seminar will  be hosted in a private Toronto residence designed by Richard Librach.
